Paradigm Shift

Everyone knows that IT sector has most deeply been affected by recession. If that could affect the jobs of the IT employees, then it has affected the future IT prospects as well. I am not talking about the recent graduates from colleges but am talking about the future college prospects. It seems that in the present counselling for the engineering seats, students are opting themselves out of the Information Technology field.
Five years back, when I, one amongst fellow batchmates, was sitting in my school auditorium for a workshop on job opportunities, the guy in the dias looked at us and asked us how many of us want to be a doctor. Almost the entire bio group students raised their hands. That would be around 110 students.
Two years back, the demand for medical seats got too less and the demand for IT seats were at the peak. Are students inclined to choose the course that is always at the top or do they choose it with complete interest? Students tend to choose the field that will keep them secure. We cannot blame them. Fruits like mangoes, water melons comes only during summer season and not during any other season. One cannot see them in the roadside vendor stalls. Just because they don’t come in the other season, you wouldn’t begin to hate them, would you?

isnt it obvious neon?!?! …everyone wants to follow whatever is “in”! hiphappening!!! not many want to follow their dream(s)…they just blindly go and join(or are made to join) in whatever is leading…

You want to emphasize that students must choose the course?

You wanted to emphasize that students must opt for the course based on their interest alone?

U ask if students are choosing based on interest???? Let me ask you one question… Name me one person who has an ambition to become a software engineer…
Ppl never choose this field out of interest. But only bcoz this field has been soaring up recently (before the recession).

@ Vivek
yes… the high school syllabus is like that… they just want to get high marks and end up in the current best course…

I'm damn sure not one would have actually seen what they were going to study for four years or Syllabus at least once before opting for the Dept ! There are always too choices lying before us, Earn and survive dont bother abt following dreams or Follow ur dream but be ready to not succeed in that ! Sometimes the risk is worth it, when it succeeds, but sometimes it may destroy a pleasant future if it fails.
I chose CSE just because I hated electrical and Mech ! I was having no choice. Moreover I wanted to do a Professional course only and not degree. My dreams dont connect with my career, however I will still achieve my other dreams with the aid of this career!

@ Nithya
achieving your dream using some other as a tool is different… and that is good… but going somewhere which is not your ambition is just like a safe seat or a safe belt…
and I know the spammers… lol
