The Paradigm

August 30, 2008.

Paradigm 08 was the CSE symposium organized by my college and it was a huge success. Usually my dept symposium would be organized on Fridays, but due to the entry of the first Bio-Medical final years, our symposium was pushed to Saturday. It was always a question to me whether students would travel 40 kms to attend a symposium. Further, there was no gaming and informals event. But I still expected some decent crowd as my symposium has always lured participants.

Having completed my symposium magazine (Exemplar 08), I decided not to be in any particular committee (though I wished to). For the first time ever, I managed to witness all the events that was happening in my symposium. Since Karthick was also in the magazine committee, he too accompanied me. Before attending the inaugural event, we decided to pay my dept a visit to see the decoration work. We witnessed the result of hard work and creativity, as the decoration work was really cool. Kudos to the decoration team!!! Here are some pictures I took.

We then left to witness the inaugural event and saw tremendous crowd waiting for something to happen. Then there was this formal inaugural event – welcome address, speech by the dignitaries, speech by the student president and speech by the chief guest. The chief guest gave a speech about entrepreneurship and it was really good. Then there was the release of the magazine (Oh! How did I forget about that?) My friend Karthick said the magazine had not come as expected. Next was the most awaited presentation videos neatly done by the media team. The inaugural event got over and we headed to the Computer block to go to the Debugging event.

The debugging event was organized efficiently. It was there I managed to get the magazine from the hands of a junior. It was sooner than I expected. Yes, the magazine was not like we had expected. The cover should have been in glossy printout. Since it was not, it was not so attractive. I didn’t complain either (neither was there anything to complain about). The huge crowd, which managed to find the debugging event, was coming in fast. So we headed to the dept once again.

The quiz events were going on in the ground floor and the first floor. We headed to the MAC lab to see the first prelims round of Digital Art. I managed to take a pic here too.

We went down to see the Programming event organized by my friend Arun. It turned out to be more successful than expected as there were always participants waiting outside.

We headed to the Old CSE Seminar Hall to see the Paper Presentation event. It was like a peaceful war. Participants trying to explain their papers and trying to defend themselves from the mastermind staffs of my department, was really like a war. We would have seen two or three papers and left. By the time we left, most of the prelims were almost over and it was nearing lunch.

My friends Hari and Inchara just then arrived. They didn’t want to participate in any event. After taking some rest, we witnessed the Quiz finals. We were then sitting outside the audi when suddenly all the participants had started coming out. It was just 3:20 pm. It is not supposed to be over! Did I just miss the valedictory function?! I went inside the audi to find my batch posing for the group photo. Did I miss it too?! Nope. I managed to join them for the last few snaps.

Paradigm 08 was over. The shift has occurred (er… don’t ask me what it means!). It was a grand success. Thanks to 2238 participants who had turned up and credits goes to the Paradigm 08 team.
