Welcome to Amusement Park!!!

Posted by Kavin on May 17, 2006

Amusement parks have been a great hangout place. From six to sixty, everyone enjoys them. I think that VGP is the oldest known amusement park in India. VGP Golden Beach started in the year 1975, with attracting rides even at that period of time. The best part of VGP Golden beach is the Beach inside it. It used to rock Chennai until 1994 or 1995. But it lost its lure when advanced amusement parks shadowed VGP.

Little Folks was my favourite when I was at the age of 8. Though it is very small, it is very neat and attractive. It is designed for kids only. One of the best example is the swimming pool of knee level depth of an average man. But adults too enjoy the Flume water ride and boating. The lake is very huge that gave me chills since we always used to go for boating during night time. I have never seen the lake during daytime. But one of the most powerful attraction first came in Little Folks, the introduction of Dolphins and Sea Lions show, the first of its kind in India. The show was absolutely great, but Little Folks now stand in pity as the dolphins died due to high chlorination and the sea lions were never able to buy the show since then.

Kishkinta, the next amusement park came two years after Little Folks. The ‘once more poalaama daddy?’ fame ad, attracted many visitors. Kishkinta started rocking Chennai with its ‘White Water ride’ and 3D theatre and not to forget, the enormous wave pool, the first of its kind. Though Kishkinta is comparatively small, it still attracts many visitors in and around Chennai. It calls itself India’s No.1 theme park.

MGM Dizzee World, the next big thing, started years after Kishkinta and sooner, it invaded Chennai with its enormous area and with advanced rides that the other amusement parks failed to bring. MGMDW would be proud to have introduced rides such as Roller Coaster ride, Ranger, Rainbow and Revolution. Always jam packed with crowd, MGM began attracting more when it introduced Snow Park, in the hot sultry climate of Chennai. I am still wondering what MGM stands for. Some strange thought tells me that it is “Metro Goldwyn Mayer” a famous studio of Hollywood. MGMDW still rocks Chennai as the big thing.

Queensland, came years after MGM Dizzee world. Only recently, I went to Queensland for the first time and I think that Queensland is comparatively smaller to MGMDW. Queensland reminded me of VGP with dance and music shows here and there and like a railway station, a lady is giving timely announcements to the visitors. To talk about Queensland, I think it has the best roller coaster ride, it is huge but it doesn’t turn 360 degrees. It has ropeway (cable car), something that you can’t find in Chennai. Not to forget the Free fall tower, the first of its kind and the enormous swimming pool. Queensland will rock Chennai along with MGMDW until some other amusement parks come into play.

Some of the other amusement parks are Dash N Splash, a very small water theme park. Very enjoyable for swimming pool lovers. Black Thunder, Asia’s no.1 water theme park as it calls itself is no exception with its enormous area and amazing water rides that captivated visitors from all around Chennai visiting Ooty. Adhisayam, in Madurai, is also known for its great rides. Next time, you like to visit any of the above, have a minimum of Rs.500 in cash for a person and you would enter a new world of extravaganza.
