Larger than sea!

Posted by Kavin on May 23, 2006

Every man has a single vision in his mind. The vision though transparent has had an effect so opaque. Yes, the vision controversial to the ultimate question – “Survival of the fittest”. These days, every child is being brought up with words “You have to survive in this competitive world…” The words are so strong that man fails to learn the other qualities of life. One of them is ‘Patience’. Some even ask “Has man completely lost his patience?”. Yes I am afraid it will be true. A man is gifted with a present that wasn’t given to any other creature – Thinking power. The way how he uses it is the question. Generally, a man’s tendency is to trigger the things that comes in his first thought, acting immediately to the cruelties of mind. If man had given a second thought, the world wouldn’t have unleashed the nuclear forces and it wouldn’t have suffered never-ending crisis.

“One moment of patience may ward off great disaster. One moment of
impatience may ruin a whole life.” –
Chinese Proverb

The time when one can feel the wrath of a man is when he has completely lost his patience. Ofcourse there are things that one has to lose if he has to be patient. But the reward is great and unexpected. One may ask “Why should I lose in order to gain?” Remember, you are gaining a quality of wisdom and you are losing nothing but a disease that threatens the future of mankind – Inhumanity.

“We could never learn to be brave and patient if there were only joy in the world.” – Helen Keller.

Imagine a crowd rushing and fighting themselves to attain the unreachable. Imagine a man who has successfully fought the crowd and reached the target. So is he smart? Is he brave? Has he shown the instinct to survive in this world not even caring about the people he has just smashed and pushed in order to reach the target? Now imagine a man who is standing at the back and waiting for his chance not intending to hurt anyone. Will he reach the target? No one knows. But what do you call him? Lazy? Coward? Not fit to survive in this world? It is for you to decide. But what I would say is that the latter has attained a quality that the first person hasn’t got even in the deeper corners of his heart – Humanity. If that is not there, then he is not fit to be a human. Then who cares about Darwinism if he is not fit to be a human???

Here are some ways to be patient though you may find some silly. If you had reached the limits of your patience, you may follow these. Trust me!

1. Have you ever been asked to count from 1 to 100 if you get angry? I am sure you would have been asked. Yes its magically true. Counting 1 to 100 diverts your mind to some simple task making it to forget whatever happened.

2. Just sit comfortably on a chair, relax yourself, twist your neck slowly. Then sitting straight, take a deep breath and slowly release. I recommend this when you are in an exam hall tensed up.

3. Sit in the basic asana position on the floor, the way Lord Buddha is seated. Close your eyes and divert all your thoughts to darkness. Then imagine a speck of light in the darkness. The more intense it is, the more you are concentrating. Revolve your thoughts around the light. Do this for ten minutes and you had just meditated. Yes, its the basic meditation where the light should be thought as your soul. This would do good with very light music. Cassettes for meditation are available.

Remember if Gandhiji wasn’t patient enough, India wouldn’t have got freedom. “A world without patience is a world without water”.

“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” – John Quincy Adams

Welcome to Amusement Park!!!

Posted by Kavin on May 17, 2006

Amusement parks have been a great hangout place. From six to sixty, everyone enjoys them. I think that VGP is the oldest known amusement park in India. VGP Golden Beach started in the year 1975, with attracting rides even at that period of time. The best part of VGP Golden beach is the Beach inside it. It used to rock Chennai until 1994 or 1995. But it lost its lure when advanced amusement parks shadowed VGP.

Little Folks was my favourite when I was at the age of 8. Though it is very small, it is very neat and attractive. It is designed for kids only. One of the best example is the swimming pool of knee level depth of an average man. But adults too enjoy the Flume water ride and boating. The lake is very huge that gave me chills since we always used to go for boating during night time. I have never seen the lake during daytime. But one of the most powerful attraction first came in Little Folks, the introduction of Dolphins and Sea Lions show, the first of its kind in India. The show was absolutely great, but Little Folks now stand in pity as the dolphins died due to high chlorination and the sea lions were never able to buy the show since then.

Kishkinta, the next amusement park came two years after Little Folks. The ‘once more poalaama daddy?’ fame ad, attracted many visitors. Kishkinta started rocking Chennai with its ‘White Water ride’ and 3D theatre and not to forget, the enormous wave pool, the first of its kind. Though Kishkinta is comparatively small, it still attracts many visitors in and around Chennai. It calls itself India’s No.1 theme park.

MGM Dizzee World, the next big thing, started years after Kishkinta and sooner, it invaded Chennai with its enormous area and with advanced rides that the other amusement parks failed to bring. MGMDW would be proud to have introduced rides such as Roller Coaster ride, Ranger, Rainbow and Revolution. Always jam packed with crowd, MGM began attracting more when it introduced Snow Park, in the hot sultry climate of Chennai. I am still wondering what MGM stands for. Some strange thought tells me that it is “Metro Goldwyn Mayer” a famous studio of Hollywood. MGMDW still rocks Chennai as the big thing.

Queensland, came years after MGM Dizzee world. Only recently, I went to Queensland for the first time and I think that Queensland is comparatively smaller to MGMDW. Queensland reminded me of VGP with dance and music shows here and there and like a railway station, a lady is giving timely announcements to the visitors. To talk about Queensland, I think it has the best roller coaster ride, it is huge but it doesn’t turn 360 degrees. It has ropeway (cable car), something that you can’t find in Chennai. Not to forget the Free fall tower, the first of its kind and the enormous swimming pool. Queensland will rock Chennai along with MGMDW until some other amusement parks come into play.

Some of the other amusement parks are Dash N Splash, a very small water theme park. Very enjoyable for swimming pool lovers. Black Thunder, Asia’s no.1 water theme park as it calls itself is no exception with its enormous area and amazing water rides that captivated visitors from all around Chennai visiting Ooty. Adhisayam, in Madurai, is also known for its great rides. Next time, you like to visit any of the above, have a minimum of Rs.500 in cash for a person and you would enter a new world of extravaganza.

Copy Cats – Inspiration or Coincidence???

Posted by Kavin on May 6, 2006

You are watching a song on a TV or hearing it… it’s a new song but you have heard it elsewhere… How many times you have felt it to be so? Is it inspiration or mere coincidence? Or is it more than inspiration? Recently I checked out ITWOFS… and it showed me a list of inspired Indian songs and I was shocked to see the pretty huge list.
The list showed the copied song or tune followed by the original song. Even A.R.Rehman had copied some tunes (not the entire ones though).
Deva is very well known for copying tunes or even the entire song. If you feel that Deva has composed a good song, its copied ofcourse. Even the maestro Mr.Ilayaraja has copied some tunes. Well Deva himself has admitted that he copies tunes. But wait! We must not degrade our music directors. It might be a coincidence or an unexpected occurring. There are inspirations everywhere and if its inspiration in music too, it should not be blamed.
I strongly suggest you all to visit the link and decide whether it’s an inspiration or just coincidence!!! I strongly suggest you all to hear ‘I feel lonely’, the original of the song ‘I like you’ from Citizen. Then the original beats of the song ‘Thenmaerka Paruvakaatru’ is absolutely great. Enjoy!
